Blood Surfer selected as a GEM for 2015

Gem2015Good news! Kathy’s Review Corner has selected Blood Surfer as one of the Gems of 2015! I’m so excited because I’m sharing the list of gems along with Sherrilyn Kenyon, Nalini Singh, and Cary Elwes (you read that correctly – Westley, The Man in Black, The Dread Pirate Roberts himself is a 2015 Gem!).

Along with listing her gems for 2015, Kathy is also celebrating Kathy’s Review Corner’s  9th anniversary this year.

As part of that celebration, she’s raffling off a prize package (or two) to members of her announcement loop. I’ll be supplying  swag for the packages. If you are interested in vying for a prize package, all you have to do is join Kathy’s announcement loop here.

Query Quandary Update

I can hardly be believe it’s been a month since I finaled in NHRWA’s Query Quandary contest. The good news is that Dream of My Soul placed 1st in the paranormal category. Now I have to send in the first ten pages to the final round judge: Janet Reid. I hope to find out the results before or during RWA’s Annual Conference. That would be a nice little tag to talk about during my pitch sessions. I’ve crossed my fingers, toes, eyes, legs, arms and I’m clicking my heels together three times.

Query Quandary

I hate to admit it, but I had completely forgotten about NHRWA’s Query Quandary contest until I received an email saying that Dream of My Soul had finaled in the paranormal category. I was at Applebee’s treating my little brother to a birthday lunch when my smartphone pinged. It’s a new phone and I’m still not used to all of its functions, so it took me a few seconds to figure out how to open the email app. When I saw the subject line reading “Congratulations! You’re a finalist…” I let out a squee and launched myself across the booth to place a big, fat, wet kiss on my brother’s forehead. Since he’s already been hugged and kissed quite thoroughly that day, he squawked, “What? What? What did I do?” I then told him about finaling. He offered to buy me lunch, but it was his birthday, so he’ll owe me for another visit.

Even though my trip north was to visit my family, my folks gave me the time and space I needed to work on revising my query for the next round. One of the judges really knew what she was doing and gave me great advice about how to strengthen what I already had written. I really like the new version and it’s going up on my website today.

The final round judge is Esi Sogah of AVON/HarperCollins. If I win the category, then my query will compete for the Grand Finalist title. That judge is the Query Shark herself: Janet Reid.

I should know if I won the category by the end of June, but the Grand Finalist won’t be announced until after RWA’s Annual Conference this summer. Still, this is a very nice feather to place in my cap.

Golden Palm FTW!

Dream of My Soul won the Golden Palm award in the Paranormal/Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Time Travel category from the Florida Romance Writers. I’m been doing a mental happy dance for the past twenty-four hours. It’s my first contest win and it feels wonderful. I have to thank everyone who helped me pull this story together! Nanites Unite! You know who you are. Thanks, folks. Next round is on me.
